Abstract: This study investigates the role of digital badges in recognizing vocational skills in Nigeria, exploring their potential to validate and showcase competency-based achievements in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs. Digital badges offer a digital representation of skills and accomplishments earned through specific learning experiences, providing verifiable credentials that enhance transparency, portability, and recognition of vocational skills in the digital age. The research aims to (1) examine the implementation and adoption of digital badges in vocational education settings, (2) assess the perceived value and impact of digital badges on student motivation, skill validation, and employability prospects, and (3) propose recommendations for optimizing digital badge systems to effectively support vocational skill recognition and credentialing in Nigeria. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from educators, employers, and vocational students familiar with digital badge implementations. A sample size of 300 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational institutions, industry partners, and digital badge administrators in Lagos State. Case studies will explore successful digital badge initiatives and their outcomes in validating vocational skills and enhancing employability. Findings indicated positive perceptions of digital badges among stakeholders, identified challenges such as standardization and recognition issues, and highlighted the role of industry collaboration in enhancing digital badge credibility. Recommendations include establishing badge quality standards, integrating badges into curriculum frameworks, and fostering industry partnerships to promote wider acceptance and utilization of digital badges in vocational education.
